Every child deserves a place where they feel safe enough to try, brave enough to make mistakes, and confident enough to discover what they’re capable of.

Reins & Reading began with two simple passions: a lifelong love of horses and a deep belief that every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy and confidence that comes from learning.

  Over the years, it became clear that horses have an incredible way of helping children feel safe, seen, and capable.  they don’t care about reading levels, test scores, or how many mistakes a child makes.  They simply respond to patience, kindness, clear communication, and confidence.  As children build relationships with our horses, they begin discovering those qualities within themselves.

  That’s the heart behind Reins & Reading.

By combining literacy activities with meaningful, ground-based interactions with horses, we’ve created a program where reading becomes something children experience- not something they fear.  Along the way, children strengthen their reading skills while developing confidence, communication, leadership, problem-solving, and resilience.

Our goal has never been simply to create better readers.

Our goal is to help children believe in themselves.  

Because when children discover confidence, they become willing to try.  When they’re willing to try, learning becomes exciting. And when learning becomes exciting, a lifelong love of reading can grow.

Every child who walks through our gate has their own story.  We hope they leave believing they can write an even better one.

After all, confidence changes everything.
